My favorite bouquet of roses

I love all sorts of flowers. But, I would count roses, orchids, sunflowers and carnations as my favorites. Of course, roses(orange, white, pink or whatever color!) top my list of favorite flowers.

Flowers are not only beautiful(each flower is unique in its own way!) but, they can be used to express our emotions : love, appreciation, friendship, passion or simply gratitude. Generally speaking, women love flowers. If you give flowers especially roses to a woman, it is ‘sure’ to put a smile on her face. And nothing could beat roses when it comes to expressing romantic love.

With the advent of internet and other technologies, you can order flowers from online flower companies like 1800flowers. Perhaps, I may order a bouquet of multi-colored roses and send them to my friend. Her birthday is coming soon and she lives far away from me!

Natural cures for Swine Flu…Not hoaxes!

I was thinking of writing this post much, much earlier. But, I simply could not find the time(maybe, I was lazy).  If you are wondering about my timing, well, I just read about the declaration of swine flu outbreak as a national emergency in the US. Anyway, refer to the article below(it was written by someone else; I simply copied and pasted it) :-

“Former associate professor of ecology at University Malaya has authored several books on complementary therapy called, ‘Ecological Healing System’.
Dr Palaniappan said his 33 years of research had shown that high acidity in the body resulted in loss of immunity, thus making people more susceptible to viral diseases like Influenza A (H1N1).
Hence, to prevent acidity, it was essential to consume alkaline food and drinks that could neutralise excess acid in the body.
Dr Palaniappan recommends coconut water, which is alkaline, and therefore could be used as an herbal medicine for the prevention of H1N1.
For example, he said, those who felt feverish and developed a burning sensation while attending to a call of nature because of extreme acidity, could neutralise it by drinking coconut water, twice a day, for three days.
He also recommended orange, lemon and ”pomelo” which, despite containing citric acid, were very rich in potassium and therefore, would not disturb the body’s immunity.

According to Dr Palaniappan, excessive physical activity like running a marathon should be avoided as it produced acid due to excessive metabolic activity.

Similarly, he said, keeping late nights without adequate sleep and working without proper rest could also increase the body’s acidity which in turn, lowered immunity and made the body vulnerable to viral attacks.

Dr Palaniappan’s blog: http://ecohealingsystem.blogspot.com/ discusses the therapy in more detail. “

The natural cure listed below was based on real life experiences(I cannot guarantee that it is true!) :-

Eat a minimum of 6 green apples per day. Or you could simply blend the green apples into apple juice. Keep on drinking the green apple juice the whole day until the ’fever’ drops(does not matter how long it takes-one day, two days or even longer!).

It will better to take the green apple juice along with oranges/fresh orange juice (no, do not mix the green apple juice with orange juice !) . It does not really matter how many oranges or glasses of orange juice you take.  The focus is on green apples or green apple juice! Oranges are rich in Vitamin  C. Refer to  http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002404.htm  .

Hopefully, this post helps somebody!

A banana a day keeps the doctor away!

“An apple a day keeps the doctor away” still remains. But, I have decided to add this one as well. Why? There are many benefits to “eating a banana a day”(now you know why I chose a banana smoothie as my theme!). I am all for bananas….

Benefits of eating bananas :-

1) Anaemic condition : Bananas stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood. So, they help people who are suffering from this particular condition.

2) Blood Pressure : Banana is high in potassium but, it is low in salt. So, it is perfect to ‘beat’ blood pressure. Even the US FDA has given permission to banana industries to claim banana’ s ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke officially.  Based on research, The New England Journal of Medicine supports the claim about reducing stroke.

3) Brain Power: According to research, students who eat bananas are more alert.

4) Constipation: Since bananas are high in fiber, bananas can help restore normal bowel action if they are included as part of  the diet.

5) Heartburn: Due to their natural antacid effects, bananas give soothing relief to those who suffer from heartburn if they eat bananas.

6) Morning Sickness: Bananas help maintain blood sugar levels up. Taking them between meals would help those who suffer from morning sickness.

Finance-Steve Stevanovich

If you are wondering why my very first post  is about finance, well, that is the number one topic all over the world these days. The Stevanovich Center, University of Chicago is working on advancing the world of financial markets(which is getting more and more complex!) by integrating the financial cores : economics, statistics and mathematics.  This center was named after Steve Stevanovich as recognition for his contributions, financial and otherwise.

With the centre ‘s great notion of combining theory with practice, the Stevanovich Center happens to be a meeting place for financial professionals like Steve Stevanovich and academicians especially mathematicians.  How does this center go about bringing together the academic geniuses and financial experts like Steve Stevanovich? Well, it organises many conferences and seminars for that very purpose.

If you are planning to invest your money in the financial market, it is better to learn about the market as much as possible beforehand. The Stevanovich Center might be the perfect learning place since financial experts like Steve Stevanovich contribute their practical knowledge.
